Broadway's Big Night: The Nominees Are In!
New York, USAFriday, May 2, 2025
The best play category is just as diverse. "English" is a look at Iranian students preparing for an English language exam. "The Hills of California" is about a family gathering for a matriarch's impending death. "John Proctor Is the Villain" is a feminist take on "The Crucible. " And "Purpose" is a drawing-room drama about a Black family's internal strife. Plus, "Oh, Mary! " is a wild revisionist history of Mary Todd Lincoln.
The acting nominations are just as impressive. Audra McDonald is up for her role in "Gypsy, " while George Clooney got a nod for his performance in "Good Night, and Good Luck. " Sarah Snook and Bob Odenkirk also earned nominations for their debut performances.
But not everyone was lucky. Some big names like Kit Connor, Rachel Zegler, Robert Downey Jr. , and even a high-profile "Othello" production with Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get any nominations. It's a reminder that Broadway is full of surprises.
The Tony Awards will be handed out on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall. It's going to be a night full of surprises and celebrations. So, who do you think will take home the big prizes?
