'Building a Healthier America: The Truth About Marijuana Policy'
California, USA, Los Angeles,Friday, January 17, 2025
The Trump-Vance administration should reject moving marijuana to Schedule III because it doesn't meet the legal definition. Doing so would help corporations, allowing them to deduct advertising costs. Marijuana is harming many Americans, with 3 in 10 users becoming addicted. The incoming administration needs to focus on helping people get treatment.
Federal law enforcement also has a part to play. They can prevent distribution to minors, curb drugged driving, and investigate illegal activities in state-legal dispensaries. By targeting the worst actors, law enforcement can shut down harmful operations.
To promote public safety, the administration should tackle illegal marijuana grows, especially those on federal lands. These are often controlled by cartels and damage the environment. A new national anti-drug media campaign is needed, one that uses both traditional and social media to educate young people about the dangers of drugs.
While all drugs need attention, marijuana, with its high addiction rate, is a significant issue. If President Trump wants to make America healthy again, he must address this.
