Bus Attack in West Bank: A Closer Look
Al-Funduq, IsraelMonday, January 6, 2025
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to find and punish those responsible for the bus attack. Hamas, while not claiming responsibility, praised the attack.
The West Bank, along with Gaza and east Jerusalem, was captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war. Palestinians aim to establish a state in these territories. Currently, over 3 million Palestinians live under Israeli military rule in the West Bank, with the Palestinian Authority managing population centers.
Meanwhile, the war in Gaza continues with no clear end. Talks for a ceasefire and hostage release are ongoing. The war started when Hamas-led militants attacked from Gaza almost 15 months ago, killing over 1, 200 people and abducting around 250.
The conflict has caused significant destruction in Gaza, displacing 90% of its population. The harsh conditions have led to the deaths of several infants due to hypothermia.
Aid groups face challenges in providing relief due to Israeli restrictions and ongoing fighting. The situation remains complex and difficult to navigate.
