California's New Plan to Fight Retail Theft: Here’s What You Need to Know

Has your local store suddenly locked up everyday items like deodorant? That’s because California has rolled out new laws to tackle retail crime. What’s more, stealing stuff worth over $50, 000 or possessing stuff worth over $950 with plans to sell could land you in jail for a few years. Even car break-ins aren’t safe, with stricter penalties for swiped items. Governor Gavin Newsom, who’s been big on crime-busting, has pumped over $1 billion since 2019 to help local cops.
