Campus Chaos: The Quick Response to Florida State's Shooting
Florida State University, Tallahassee, USASaturday, April 19, 2025
The shooting lasted less than five minutes. Ikner arrived at the campus parking garage around 11 a. m. and stayed there for about an hour. He then left the garage and started shooting. By 11:58 a. m. , multiple 911 calls reported an active shooter on campus. The suspect was shot and taken into custody at noon.
Ikner had access to weapons through his family’s ties to law enforcement. He had been involved in training programs and was a member of the youth advisory council at the sheriff’s office. Some of his classmates described him as having extreme views.
The university community held a vigil to honor the victims. Robert Morales, a dining coordinator, and Tiru Chabba, an employee with Aramark, were remembered for their kindness and dedication. The university cancelled all athletic events through Sunday as a sign of respect.
