Canada's Terrorism Problem: What America Needs to Know

When you think about Canada, you might imagine polite people and cold winters. But there's something else happening up north that should catch your attention. In recent years, acts of radical Islamic terrorism have been on the rise in Canada. This isn’t new—Canada has seen incidents like the “Toronto 18” plot in 2006 and attacks on Parliament Hill in 2014. But it's getting worse fast. In just the last year, there have been many disturbing events. Two teens were caught planning an attack on Ottawa’s Jewish community. A father-son duo was also planning violence in Toronto. Even a Pakistani student in Toronto had plans to attack Jews in New York. Canadian authorities have thwarted many of these plots, often with help from U.S. intelligence.

But it's not just planned attacks. There are regular incidents targeting Jewish communities, like shootings at day schools and synagogue burnings. Pro-Palestinian rallies sometimes feature open antisemitism. A group called B’nai Brith recorded almost 6,000 antisemitic acts in Canada in just one year. Iran, a major sponsor of terrorism worldwide, seems to be very active in Canada. The Iranian regime was even linked to campus protests last school year. U.S. officials have warned about traveling to Canada due to these threats. The U.S. can't turn a blind eye to this growing problem. If America doesn’t help push for changes, things might get worse for both countries. It's not just about Canada—it affects the security of the entire region.
