Carmelo Anthony: A Hall of Fame Journey
Saturday, February 15, 2025
In the 2012-13 season, Anthony had one of his best performances with the Knicks, leading them to a 54-game winning streak. However, their playoff run was cut short by the Pacers in the second round. Riley, whose team won the championship that year, was not overly concerned about facing the Knicks in the playoffs.
Anthony's international success further strengthens his Hall of Fame candidacy. He won an NCAA title with Syracuse and three Olympic gold medals. He was also Team USA's all-time leading Olympic scorer until Kevin Durant broke the record last year. Jerry Colangelo, former director of USA Basketball, praised Anthony's competitiveness and his ability to adapt to the international game.
Another notable finalist for the Hall of Fame is Buck Williams, a power forward known for his rebounding and defensive skills. Williams, who also played for the Knicks, ranks 16th in career NBA rebounds. His induction into the Hall of Fame is long overdue, nearly 27 years after his retirement.
The other finalists include Dwight Howard and Marques Johnson. Among the nominees who were not selected as finalists are Amar'e Stoudemire, World B Free, Robert Horry, Tom Chambers, and Reggie Theus. The non-NBA player finalists include Billy Donovan, Mark Few, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Micky Arison.
