Celebrating Life Before Surgery: A Breast Cancer Patient's Farewell Party

Steph Coffield, a 41-year-old mom from Minneapolis, Minnesota, found out she had breast cancer during a routine check-up. She was diagnosed with a fast-growing type called stage zero ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Although the cancer hadn’t spread, Steph decided to have a double mastectomy to be safe. Her breasts had been a big part of her identity, having breastfed her three kids. So, her friends threw her a special party called a 'boob voyage' to say farewell.

The party was all about celebrating her body and thanking her breasts for their service. There were pink decorations, boob-themed games like 'booby bingo', and even a breast-shaped cake. Steph found the party to be a great way to accept the changes she was about to go through. After the surgery, she learned she needed further treatment. But Steph thinks it's important to talk openly about women's health and share experiences.
