Celebrities and the Silence on ICE Actions
Billie Eilish is not happy. She wants other famous people to speak up about what's happening in Minneapolis. ICE, the immigration enforcement agency, is causing a lot of trouble there.
Eilish shared a photo on her Instagram Story with a simple question:
"Hey, fellow celebrities, are you going to speak up?"
Background on Alex Pretti's Death
Before this, she shared posts about Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by an ICE agent during an operation. The Trump administration says the agent acted in self-defense. But witness videos show a different story.
- Pretti did not seem to be holding his gun.
- The agent had already taken it from him.
- Pretti's family says he had a permit to carry the gun.
Finneas' Reaction
Eilish's brother, Finneas, also shared his thoughts. He made a video saying that the argument for why Pretti's death was justified is just:
"Well, he had a gun."
Finneas was clearly upset. He said Pretti was being beaten on the ground and did not draw his weapon.
ICE's Actions in Minneapolis
Both Eilish and Finneas have been vocal about ICE's actions in Minneapolis. Two people have been killed by ICE agents there recently. The Trump administration claims self-defense in both cases. But witness footage contradicts this.
Eilish's Award Speech
Eilish talked about this at an event where she received an award. She said:
"We're seeing our neighbors being kidnapped, peaceful protesters being assaulted and murdered, our civil rights being stripped."
She also said many Americans no longer feel safe in their homes or streets.
Olivia Rodrigo Speaks Out
Olivia Rodrigo is another celebrity who has spoken out. She posted about the violence in Minneapolis. She said:
"ICE's actions are unconscionable, but we are not powerless. Our actions matter. I stand with Minnesota."
