Celebs Pitch in for Hurricane Recovery

When two devastating hurricanes, Milton and Helene, struck the southeastern U.S., celebrities stepped up to lend a hand. Some stars with roots in the affected regions, like western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, were particularly quick to help. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady teamed up with the delivery service Gopuff to raise $100,000 for affected Floridians through the Volunteer Florida Foundation. Any donations made via Gopuff’s new app tool, “Give With Gopuff,” will also be matched. Pop star Taylor Swift, currently the world’s richest female musician, donated a substantial $5 million to relief efforts run by Feeding America. These funds will aid communities to recover and rebuild, providing essential food, clean water, and supplies. Her Eras Tour is expected to resume in Miami in October. Country music legend Dolly Parton, hailing from Tennessee, pledged a personal donation of $1 million and another $1 million from her businesses, including Dollywood, to support Hurricane Helene recovery. Her donation will go to the Mountain Ways Foundation.

Country singer Morgan Wallen, also from Tennessee, gave $500,000 to the American Red Cross and hosted a donation drive in Knoxville with comedian Theo Von and Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello. Heavy metal band Metallica’s nonprofit, All Within My Hands Foundation, donated a total of $100,000 to World Central Kitchen and Team Rubicon to help with immediate response efforts. A benefit concert titled “Concert for Carolina” will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 26. Music stars like Keith Urban, Luke Combs, and Sheryl Crow will perform. Tickets sold out quickly, showing strong support for the cause. So far, around $50 million has been raised on GoFundMe to support families and communities affected by Hurricane Helene. This amount comes from over 400,000 donors across the U.S., with an average donation of $120.
