YouTube has become a go-to place for learning all sorts of things, including medical procedures like endotracheal tube aspiration. A recent study dug into these videos to see what's helpful and what's not. They searched for videos using keywords like "endotracheal aspiration" and found 22 that fit the bill.
The study used three different tools to rate the videos: the Endotracheal Tube Aspiration Skill Form, the DISCERN Survey, and the Global Quality Scale. Most of the videos, 81. 8%, were educational, while the rest, 18. 2%, were promoting products.
When they compared videos, they found that educational videos did a better job of covering the topic than product promotion videos. Also, videos that were helpful had higher reliability and quality scores than those that weren't.
Interestingly, videos from official institutions had much higher reliability and quality scores than those posted by individual users. This study shows that while there's lots of info out there, not all of it is trustworthy or high-quality.
