Chicken Check: Why You Should Double-Check Your Fridge
Another food recall is making headlines, and this time it's about chicken.
Suzanna’s Kitchen, a food processing company, is recalling nearly 14,000 pounds of grilled chicken fillets due to possible Listeria contamination. The recall affects products sold in seven states, so it's crucial to check if your fridge might contain a risky meal.
Key Details of the Recall
- Production Date: October 14, 2025
- Product: 10-pound cases with two 5-pound bags of fully cooked grilled chicken breast fillets
- Lot Code: 60104 P1382 287 5 J14 (check both the case and individual packages)
If you find this lot code, discard the chicken immediately to stay safe.
Why Listeria is a Serious Concern
Listeria can cause listeriosis, an infection that may be mild for healthy adults but can be severe for others. High-risk groups include:
- Pregnant people
- Newborns
- Older adults
- Those with weakened immune systems
Symptoms range from flu-like issues to severe complications such as:
- Miscarriage
- Blood infections
- Meningitis
What makes Listeria particularly dangerous is that it can grow in the fridge, making ready-to-eat foods like deli meats and soft cheeses a concern.
How the Recall Was Initiated
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the recall after a lab detected Listeria in a sample of the chicken. No illnesses have been reported yet, but health officials advise anyone with concerns to contact a healthcare provider.
Previous Recalls by Suzanna’s Kitchen
This isn’t the first recall for Suzanna’s Kitchen. Just last month, they pulled back over 60,000 pounds of breaded chicken products. This serves as a reminder to always check labels and stay informed about food safety.
What You Should Do
If you have the recalled chicken, do not take any chances. Either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Staying vigilant can help protect you and your family from foodborne illnesses.
