Chilly Start to Winter in North Texas
Just Before Winter's Official Start
After an unusually warm fall, North Texas is experiencing a significant temperature drop. The past few months have been exceptionally mild, with average temperatures around 73 degrees. This fall could rank as the second warmest on record for DFW Airport.
Arctic Blast Sweeps Through
A strong cold front arrived on Saturday, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures. In just 24 hours, temperatures plummeted by about 20 degrees. By Sunday morning, lows dipped into the low 30s, but with winds gusting up to 25 mph, the wind chill made it feel like the low 20s.
Cold Weather Persists
The cold air is expected to linger throughout the day, with highs reaching only the mid-40s. However, factoring in the wind chill, it will feel more like the upper 30s. Northeasterly winds will continue to gust up to 25 mph, and skies will remain partly cloudy.
Dress Warm for the Parade of Lights
If you're attending the Parade of Lights in Fort Worth, make sure to bundle up. Monday will also be chilly, with temperatures dipping back into the 30s overnight. While there may be a few spotty showers, the chances of wintry precipitation sticking to the ground are slim. Roads are expected to stay warm enough to prevent any travel issues.
Warming Trend and Another Cold Front
Temperatures will gradually rise through midweek. However, another cold front is expected to move through late Wednesday or early Thursday, bringing more rain and cooler weather for the end of the week.
