In a significant move, the United States has slapped sanctions on two Chinese companies for the first time. These companies are accused of supplying complete weapons systems to Russia, which is using them in the war in Ukraine. The US says that the Chinese firms worked closely with Russian defense companies to produce and send long-range drones to the battlefield. These drones are said to have caused major destruction and casualties. One of the companies, Xiamen Limbach Aircraft Engine Co. , is based in the city of Xiamen. They are said to have produced the engines for the drones. But when asked, a representative from the company denied making engines for the drones or exporting to Russia. The other company, Redlepus Vector Industry Shenzhen Co. , is accused of helping to ship the drones, as well as other components like aircraft engines and electrical parts, to Russia. This was done through a Russian defense firm called TSK Vektor. When reached for comment, Redlepus hung up the phone. The US also imposed penalties on the owner of TSK Vektor for his involvement. The company had been sanctioned before for helping Russia get attack drones. A state department spokesperson says that this is the first time a Chinese company has made a weapon that was then used by Russia on the battlefield. Beijing has denied providing weapons to Russia and says they control military exports strictly. But the US says that these sanctions are because of the Chinese companies' direct involvement in making weapons for Russia. This latest tension between the US and China comes as Beijing continues to strengthen its ties with Russia. Despite claiming to be neutral, China has become Russia's biggest trading partner and a lifeline for its economy. The two countries have also increased their military exercises and promised to cooperate more closely.
