Winter weather is coming back again, with significant snowfall expected in select areas starting Wednesday morning. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is getting ready to tackle the snowy roads. Brent Kovacs, the Public Information Officer for ODOT District 12, shared that rain will precede the snow, making roads tricky and messy. The mix of winter weather and New Year's Eve, a holiday known for increased impaired driving, could lead to more accidents.
"It's going to be a rain-to-snow situation, " Kovacs explained. "Depending on your travel time, you might encounter rain or snow. Be smart, don't drink and drive, and slow down. Have a designated driver or use a rideshare service. "
ODOT will have 250 plow trucks working in 12-hour shifts through the weekend. They're also counting on drivers to be responsible. "Put down your phone, don't drink and drive, and go slower than the speed limit, " Kovacs advised. "Give our plows plenty of room to work. "
If you live in areas where heavy snow is expected, consider staying home unless it's necessary to go out. "Our plows will be going much slower than the speed limit, so be cautious around them, " Kovacs added.
