Cleveland's QB Watson Ponders Surgery Options After Achilles Injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson's season seems to be over due to an Achilles tendon rupture he suffered on Sunday. The big question now is how quickly he can bounce back. Watson has two surgical options on the table: a traditional surgery or a newer "speed bridge" procedure that could get him back on the field faster. This newer method was used by Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers last season, and it helped speed up his recovery. However, even with the faster procedure, Watson won't be ready to play again this season since he got injured in Week Seven.

One of the upsides of a quicker recovery might be a head start on the offseason. But given the situation, does that even matter much? The trade for Watson has been far from successful for the Browns. The team might wish to move on, but his guaranteed salaries for the 2025 and 2026 seasons make him a significant burden on their salary cap, whether he's playing or not.
