Climate Change and Mangrove Fishing: A Global Look
CoastalMonday, December 2, 2024
These experts realized that climate change could shift key environmental factors such as temperature, salinity, oxygen levels, flooding, and sediments. This could, in turn, affect the fish and those who rely on them for food and cultural identity. They even created a model to predict how many fishing days would be lost due to climate change in the next decade. Shockingly, they found that high-category typhoons could cause more trouble than heatwaves, with low-category typhoons causing the least issues.
Despite these discoveries, scientists admit they still don't know everything. They suggest more studies to improve future predictions and better manage these mangrove fisheries.
