Climate Summit Hits Roadblock: Who Should Pay the Billions?

Imagine trying to fix a global problem like climate change. One of the biggest issues at the recent climate summit was money. Rich nations offered $300 billion towards the $1. 3 trillion needed, but they wanted the rest to come from private investors and new taxes. Countries that are less wealthy didn't like this idea. They worried that loans could make their debt problems even worse. Kenya’s climate envoy, Ali Mohamed, said that at least $600 billion should be given as grants or low-interest loans.

The talks went over their deadline, and even important people like the UK's energy secretary, Ed Miliband, stayed late to work on a deal. Some countries like Saudi Arabia were accused of causing trouble by trying to change key texts without full discussion. Azerbaijan, the host country, was also criticized for favoring countries that are rich in oil.
