Coach Mazzulla's NBA Power Play Proposal

Boston Celtics coach, Joe Mazzulla, has sparked an interesting debate. He suggested implementing power plays in basketball, similar to ice hockey. The idea came up during his appearance on a local sports radio show. Mazzulla believes this could add more excitement to the game. He suggested that if a player commits a technical foul or a take foul, the opposing team should get a 5-on-4 advantage for a few seconds or passes. He acknowledged that having a player miss the entire possession might be too extreme. Instead, he proposed that the foul-committing player should stay outside the half-court circle for three seconds.

Mazzulla also thinks that the NBA is missing out on entertainment by not allowing fights like in baseball and hockey. He finds it unfair that other sports allow physical altercations while the NBA doesn't, despite basketball not involving any weapons. This isn't the first time Mazzulla has advocated for more physicality. He had expressed similar sentiments after a Celtics-Heat game last season. Despite the NBA's stand on fighting, Mazzulla believes basketball is the safest sport for players to engage in confrontations, as it involves only a ball.
