Cold Surprise at Disney’s Gardens

A freeze alert hit Central Florida early Tuesday, prompting Walt Disney World to act fast. The park covered flowerbeds and even a Goofy topiary with white plastic sheets to shield plants from the chill. This isn’t the first time Disney has taken such precautions; similar measures appeared at the parks in late January. Some trees near EPCOT’s entrance suffered damage because they couldn’t be protected.

EPCOT is gearing up for its 2026 International Flower & Garden Festival, which runs from March 4 to June 1. The festival’s colorful gardens sit beside the lagoon, but now they’re wrapped in white sheets to keep them warm. The covered Goofy topiary, which blows on a dandelion in the displays, also benefits from protection.

Even though the freeze warning has passed, cold temperatures are expected to linger for several more days. Blizzard Beach water park remains shut today.
