Colombia and Ecuador Probe Border Bombing Claims

Colombia-Ecuador border, ColombiaWednesday, March 18, 2026
A series of explosions at cocaine labs near the Ecuador‑Colombia border resulted in a tragic loss of 14 lives last January. Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez confirmed the incidents and noted that both countries are jointly investigating any potential violation of sovereignty. He also mentioned a bomb found in Colombia that “likely came from Ecuador’s armed forces.”

Earlier this week, Colombian President Gustavo Petro accused Ecuador of bombing Colombian territory, claiming 27 bodies were found charred. However, he offered no concrete evidence to support his claim.

In response, Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa denied wrongdoing. He stated that the targeted sites were drug‑trafficking hideouts used by narco‑terrorist groups, predominantly of Colombian origin.

Both governments are currently reviewing the situation to clarify facts and determine responsibility for these tragic events.
