Colombia's Navy Makes Big Drug Bust at Sea
Divers Uncover 450 Pounds of Cocaine
Colombia's navy recently made a significant drug bust. Divers found over 450 pounds of cocaine hidden under a ship heading to Europe. This happened at a port on the Pacific coast. The navy shared photos of the seizure, showing divers pulling out the drugs and packages on the ground.
Not the First Big Bust
This isn't the first big drug bust in the area. Just days before, the navy seized over seven tons of drugs from speedboats and a semi-submersible vessel, also known as a "narco sub." The navy also shared images and videos of this operation, showing packages on a boat and suspects being pulled from the water.
Tensions Between Colombia and the U.S.
Tensions have been high between Colombia and the U.S. recently. The Trump administration accused Colombian President Gustavo Petro of not doing enough to stop drug cartels. They even put sanctions on Petro and his family. Petro, however, claims that U.S. strikes on suspected drug boats have killed innocent civilians. He says these attacks break international law.
DEA and President Trump's Stance
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says most of the cocaine in the U.S. comes from Colombia. President Trump has blamed Petro for not controlling the drug cartels. Petro, on the other hand, says he's being honest and that the U.S. has insulted him.
Ongoing Struggle and Complex Relationship
This situation shows the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking. It also highlights the complex relationship between Colombia and the U.S. over drug policies and human rights.
