Congressman Grills Senator Cruz in Lively Debate

Democratic Rep. Colin Allred, a former NFL linebacker, gave Texas Sen. Ted Cruz a run for his money during their Senate race debate on Tuesday. Allred wasn't afraid to use some sharp one-liners, labeling Cruz's podcast as "entertainment disguised as news" and his focus on trans issues as a distraction from his unpopular abortion stance. Allred didn't mince words when he said Cruz would rather have voters think about kids in bathrooms than women in hospitals. He challenged Cruz to look into the camera and explain why Texas women like Kate Cox and Amanda Zurawski, who faced severe complications due to abortion laws, should be denied care.

The debate took a turn when they discussed transgender rights. Allred, who is also a dad and a Christian, denied supporting boys playing in girls' sports. He called Cruz's attack on his stance a desperate "Hail Mary." Allred also didn't let Cruz off the hook for his vague answer on pardoning Jan. 6 rioters. He reminded viewers that Cruz objected to certifying the 2020 election, calling Cruz a "threat to democracy."
