Chronic urticaria, a skin condition that causes hives and swelling for over six weeks, can be a real pain. It’s tough on quality of life and often needs long-term treatment. One such treatment is omalizumab, but it’s pricey, making it hard to access in countries with high healthcare costs. Researchers wanted to figure out the most affordable dose to manage chronic urticaria effectively. They searched databases like PubMed, MEDLINE, and Web of Science for studies from 2010 to 2023. They found that the 300 mg dose beat others and placebos in reducing symptoms. It also had higher response rates, showing it works better. Lower doses like 75 mg didn’t cut it. Starting with 300 mg for six months or starting with 150 mg and adjusting upwards is the way to go, considering cost. Researchers used a tool called Bayesian random-effects models and checked each study’s risk of bias with the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2. They also rated effect estimates using the GRADE approach.
