Court Battles Over Biden's Ban on DIY Gun Kits
Washington, USATuesday, October 8, 2024
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) says ghost guns are hard to trace and often used by criminals. New York City has seized hundreds of these guns and parts. The court is considering whether the ATF has the right to regulate these kits without Congress's say-so.
A Texas judge initially ruled in favor of a couple who own ghost gun components. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals mostly agreed. They argue that the law doesn't cover these kits.
The case doesn't hinge on the right to bear arms. Instead, it's about whether the ATF can expand the law's reach.
