Court Halt: Trump's Birthright Plan on Hold for 14 Days

A federal judge in Seattle just dropped a big pause button on President Trump's plan to limit birthright citizenship. This temporary block will last for two weeks. The case hits the heart of the 14th Amendment, which says anyone born in the U. S. is a citizen, except for kids of diplomats. Four states (Washington, Arizona, Illinois, and Oregon) filed a lawsuit to stop the change, saying it would cause problems like losing federal money for programs like Medicaid. The Justice Department has a different take, arguing the President has the power to make this call and says states can't sue due to money issues. The legal fight is just starting and could end up at the Supreme Court.

Judge John C. Coughenour, who's been in the job for over 40 years, thinks Trump's order is unconstitutional. He called the case clear as day, saying he can't recall one like it. The fight isn't over yet; there's still a lot of legal back and forth to come.
