Crackdown Hits California: International Crime Nets Snared

Northern California, Stockton, Sacramento, USASunday, July 12, 2026

A federal operation that began overseas has now reached Stockton, California. Prosecutors say the raid targeted three organized crime groups based in India, accusing them of drug smuggling, extortion and violent acts. The effort, known as Hard Ball, resulted in 24 arrests worldwide and numerous search warrants issued across California.

The agencies involved claimed the groups moved large volumes of illegal narcotics across borders, flooding communities with cocaine and methamphetamine. Investigators also point to a pattern of targeted killings, kidnappings and other violent behaviors linked to these organizations.

In Northern California, federal agents carried out 23 search warrants near Sacramento. Among those charged is a 22‑year‑old named Gurlal Singh from Stockton, who prosecutors say was involved with the Bhagwanpuria network. That group faces allegations of drug trafficking, weapons offenses and extortion.

A Sikh advocacy organization reported that the FBI had warned a Sacramento‑based organizer of a Khalistan referendum about an active threat from one of these criminal groups. The warning underscores the broader reach of the international crime network.

Officials describe this operation as a significant step toward dismantling global organized crime. By linking local suspects to overseas criminal enterprises, the case highlights how transnational activities can directly impact communities in Northern California.
