Credo's New 800G Cables Boost AI Networks

Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (Credo) has just unveiled their new 800G HiWire ZeroFlap (ZF) family of Active Electrical Cables (AECs). These cables are designed to reach lengths of 7 meters, providing highly reliable interconnects for artificial intelligence (AI) backend networks. The HiWire ZF AECs are a game-changer for AI clusters, offering improved reach and signal integrity, which is crucial for building massive systems with over 100,000 GPUs. The HiWire ZF family includes several new product offerings, such as the 800G OSFP to OSFP and 800G OSFP to OSFP-RHS cables. These cables take advantage of the latest liquid cooling technology to enable full host-to-switch connectivity in leading GPU clusters. According to Ameet Suri, the Head of AEC Product at Credo, these new cables can save up to 14W of power per link and up to $1,000 per GPU compared to legacy optics.

Massine Merzouk, a Network Engineer at X assisting xAI, emphasizes the importance of cluster reliability when building the world's largest supercomputers. Credo’s HiWire AECs provide the stable transport platform needed for such systems. Alan Weckel, Founding Analyst at the 650 Group, highlights that link flap issues in large GPU clusters can lead to significant training time loss and costs. Credo’s HiWire AECs have been shown to operate without link flaps for billions of hours, making them a reliable choice. Credo plans to showcase these new cables at the upcoming Open Compute Project 2024 Summit in San Jose, USA, from October 15 to 17.
