Former President Donald Trump is seeing a windfall of support from the cryptocurrency world. His campaign has raked in over $7.5 million in digital tokens, as revealed in recent filings with the Federal Election Commission. This includes a range of cryptocurrencies, from popular ones like Bitcoin and Ethereum to stablecoins like Tether and USD Coin. With the 2024 election approaching, Trump has become quite the crypto enthusiast, a big change from his earlier views. The crypto community is stepping up, with donors from various states, including key election battlegrounds. They come from different backgrounds, such as engineers and entertainment producers. A notable donor is David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc., who contributed almost $500,000 in Bitcoin. Mike Belshe, CEO of BitGo, and Brian Murray from Craft Ventures, also chipped in, along with other big names like Trevor Traina of Kresus Labs who donated $25,000 in Ethereum. Ripple's legal chief, Stuart Alderoty, even contributed $300,000 in XRP. This is interesting, as Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen supported a super PAC for Vice President Kamala Harris with $1 million in XRP. Trump's campaign has also benefited from new crypto projects. Chase Herro, co-founder of the Trump family's World Liberty Financial, a decentralized banking platform, donated to the campaign. The project's token sale raised over $10 million, although it fell short of its $300 million goal and faced technical issues. This shift shows that Trump, like many politicians, is adapting to the changing landscape of digital tokens and their growing influence in politics.
