Dairy Farm Employee Training and Milk Quality
DenmarkFriday, December 27, 2024
A bunch of questions were asked to farmers about how they manage their workers. The results showed that farms with generic standard operating procedures (SOPs) had milk with more somatic cells, which isn't great. But when employees were trained with custom SOPs for their herd, there was a slight drop in new mastitis infections. And get this, just having SOPs around but not using them actually increased the risk of new infections. So, training with herd-specific SOPs is key to keeping cows healthy, but it doesn't affect milk quality as much.
