Dak Prescott’s Hamstring Injury: Surgery or Healing? Dallas Faces Tough Decision

Dak Prescott, the Cowboys' quarterback, is dealing with a unique hamstring injury. It’s called a partial avulsion, where a tendon partially tears from the bone. The team is weighing their options: surgery or letting it heal. Surgery would end Prescott's season, so they're trying to figure out the best path. The initial diagnosis suggested he’d miss several weeks, but additional opinions are being sought to understand the severity of the tear. That’s why the Cowboys haven’t put him on injured reserve yet. Coach Mike McCarthy mentioned this on Wednesday when asked about Prescott’s possible move to IR. Prescott hurt himself during a scramble in the third quarter of last weekend’s game against Atlanta. He tried to play through it, but the pain persisted. He didn’t come back for the fourth quarter, leaving the team without their key player. This isn’t his first injury; he’s been on the injured list once before, in 2020, for a leg fracture. Last year, he fractured his thumb and didn’t go on injured reserve, missing only five games. Cooper Rush filled in, and the team went 4-1 without Prescott.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys remain hopeful that pass rusher Micah Parsons and cornerback DaRon Bland might return for their game against the Eagles. Parsons has been out with a high ankle sprain and was limited in practice on Wednesday. Bland hasn’t played all season due to a foot fracture. Initially, he was expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks, but his recovery was going well until he encountered some foot soreness. Linebackers Eric Kendricks and Nick Vigil, along with guard Zack Martin and safety Juanyeh Thomas, didn’t practice on Wednesday due to injuries. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, cornerback Trevon Diggs, and tackle Tyler Guyton were limited in practice.
