Dallas City Hall May Move: New Plan to Save Money
Dallas, USAWednesday, June 10, 2026
Instead of fixing the old building, city staff says moving to a new location would save money in the long run. They point out that downtown office space is cheap right now, so buying or leasing a new site could reduce future costs. The old City Hall site would also become available for redevelopment, which could bring new jobs and businesses to downtown.
The city council is set to vote on the move, but some members want a court order to stop the meeting because they say the public wasn’t properly notified. A judge could decide whether the council can meet as scheduled.
The proposal also asks if the city should keep working on a bond plan that could raise about $941 million for things like new police training centers and emergency operations. That bond would include money for pension obligations.
