Brazil, Teófilo OtoniSaturday, December 21, 2024
Minas Gerais governor, Romeu Zema, responded quickly, ordering a full mobilization to help the families of the victims. He made it clear that every effort was being made to manage the tragic situation, especially with Christmas just around the corner.
Brazil has a high road traffic death rate, standing at 15. 7 per 100, 000 people in 2021, compared to Argentina’s rate of 8. 8 per 100, 000. To combat this, Brazil aims to halve its road fatalities by 2030, which could save about 86, 000 lives.
This isn’t the first major accident. In September, a bus carrying a professional American football team flipped, killing three people. These events highlight the urgent need for road safety improvements.
