Deadly Bus-Truck Crash in Brazil: A Closer Look

Imagine waking up to the terrible news of a bus and truck colliding in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This tragic event took the lives of at least 22 people, with 13 more injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. The bus, filled with 45 passengers, had a blowout, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a truck. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the end of the disaster; a car then slammed into the bus, but all its passengers survived. The accident, happening around 4 am, turned the bus into a ball of flames. Pictures show a grim scene: a truck crushing a car, with a giant wheel stuck in the car’s roof. Highway BR-116 was littered with twisted metal, bus seats, and blankets. Rescue workers were seen trying to find more victims trapped in the wreckage.

Minas Gerais governor, Romeu Zema, responded quickly, ordering a full mobilization to help the families of the victims. He made it clear that every effort was being made to manage the tragic situation, especially with Christmas just around the corner. Brazil has a high road traffic death rate, standing at 15. 7 per 100, 000 people in 2021, compared to Argentina’s rate of 8. 8 per 100, 000. To combat this, Brazil aims to halve its road fatalities by 2030, which could save about 86, 000 lives. This isn’t the first major accident.
