Deadpool's Next Move: A Supporting Role in the X-Men Universe
Los Angeles, USASaturday, May 3, 2025
Reynolds's interest in writing has grown significantly over the past year. He has been focusing on scripting the Paramount comedy Boy Band, a film about aging members of a boy band. His friend Hugh Jackman has expressed interest in co-starring, and the project is part of Reynolds's shift towards producing and writing. Despite his acting career, Reynolds has stated that he is more passionate about storytelling than acting.
Reynolds's legal battle with Justin Baldoni, the director and co-star of his wife Blake Lively's film It Ends with Us, has also been a significant part of his recent life. Reynolds has been named as a plaintiff in Baldoni's suit, but his attorneys are requesting that he be dismissed. If the case goes to trial, it is set for next March.
The potential X-Men movie that Reynolds is working on is separate from another X-Men project that Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie is penning for Marvel Studios. It is still very early in the development process, and Reynolds is working independently from the studio at this stage. This is not unusual for Reynolds, who often goes through many iterations before landing on the right idea.
Reynolds has also been open about his thoughts on Deadpool's future. He believes that the character's ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated, but that this would lead to the end of his journey. Reynolds has stated that he likes Deadpool's isolated status and that giving him wish fulfillment would not be a good story choice.
