Delhi's Air: A Breath of Fresh Data

Delhi, a city known for its heavy pollution, has seen some good news lately. Over the past decade, the amount of tiny, harmful particles in the air, called PM2. 5 and PM10, has been going down. This drop is thanks to new eco-friendly tech and stricter rules on industries, even though there are more vehicles on the road than ever before. The biggest improvements happened right after the monsoon season. During this time, the levels of PM2. 5 and PM10 dropped the most. Winter and the time before the monsoon also saw good reductions, but not as much as post-monsoon.

So, what's causing this change? Dust storms, fires, and the number of rainy days all play a role. But the biggest factor seems to be the weather. A special computer model showed that weather conditions are responsible for about 9. 8% of the drop in PM2. 5 levels. The rest is thanks to the government's efforts to control pollution and promote green initiatives. This is great news, but there's still work to be done. The air quality in Delhi is still not where it should be. However, this study shows that with the right policies and technology, it's possible to make a difference.
