Delphi Murders: A Case of Gruesome Photos in Court
Delphi, USATuesday, October 22, 2024
Richard Allen, a local drugstore employee, was arrested in 2022, five years after the murders. He had previously been interviewed by police and claimed to have seen girls near a bridge. Investigators found a pistol in his home that matched an unspent bullet discovered at the crime scene. Allen pleaded not guilty and denied any involvement, despite prosecutors claiming he confessed to the murders in a phone call.
The defense argues that Allen's mental health condition compromised the voluntariness of his confessions. However, the judge ruled that these statements can be used as evidence. Police initially believed multiple people were involved, but no further arrests have been made. The defense also suggested the girls were killed in a pagan ritual, a theory the judge disallowed the jury from hearing.
