Demand for Justice: Prosecutors Allegedly Punished for Upholding Law
Tuesday, February 4, 2025
The prosecutors focused on why the brothers' resentencing was important.
Neither prosecutor was impressed with the outcome. Theberge was moved to the Alternative Public Defender's Office and given a lower position. This was a clear demotion. Lunsford, who previously had supervisory responsibilities, was stripped of them and moved to a lower position as a calendar attorney in the Norwalk Courthouse. He had no chance of promotion or advancement. He had no chance, he was stuck.
There was a lot that was not said. The prosecutors filed government claims. They wanted compensation for the damage done. They were looking for over $250, 000 in economic damages and over $5 million in non-economic damages. This was a large sum but deserved.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office didn't comment. They chose not to say anything at all.
The menendez brothers' case is big news. Last year, two Hollywood projects about them were released, including a Netflix crime series and a documentary. This case is huge! A judge will ultimately decide if the brothers' sentences will be reduced. Lawyers for the brothers want their sentences reduced to 50 years to life. This would mean they could be eligible for parole right away.
