Detroit Lions: Who's Hot and Who's Not After Win Over 49ers
Detroit, USAWednesday, January 1, 2025
Cornerback Terrion Arnold had a tough outing. He racked up tackles but was often a step late in coverage. The Lions' secondary, already plagued by injuries, missed the presence of Carlton Davis. Arnold's inconsistencies highlighted the depth issues in the Lions' defensive backfield.
Tight end Sam LaPorta finally had a standout night. Targeted eight times, he caught six passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. This performance is a welcome boost for LaPorta, who has seen an inconsistent season. LaPorta and the rest of the Detroit offense seem to be finding their groove at the right time.
Jared Goff continues to have an MVP-caliber season. His mistake-free play is hard for defenses to counter. If the Lions keep winning, Goff's name will likely come up in MVP discussions. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs also shined, looking explosive in every situation. Defensive lineman Miles Adams, in his third game with the team, recorded one of the two sacks, providing much-needed pressure.
On the flip side, safety Brian Branch had a tough time in coverage. He was targeted frequently by Ricky Pearsall, who ended up with 141 receiving yards. Branch needed to have a better night, especially with the high stakes of the upcoming game against the Vikings.
