Detroit Lions' Williams Avoids Charges Over Gun Incident

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams won't face charges after a gun was found in a car he was riding in, driven by his brother. The gun was registered to Williams but he didn't have a concealed-carry license. His brother did. Prosecutor Kym Worthy stated that Michigan law in this scenario is unclear and lacks precedent. Police stopped the car for speeding at 1 a. m. on Oct. 8. Williams claimed one of the two guns belonged to him. Without a concealed pistol license (CPL), a firearm should be in a closed case in the vehicle.

Violations are typically felonies. However, since Williams' brother had a CPL, they decided not to charge him. Williams obtained his CPL a month later, on Nov. 6. Flood, Williams' attorney, expressed gratitude to the prosecutor's team for their work. During the stop, Williams was briefly handcuffed and placed in a patrol car before being released with his gun. This season, Williams, a 2022 first-round draft pick, has 29 catches for 602 yards and four touchdowns.
