Women, you're not off the hook either; it's 26 years earlier for you. Why so early? These two conditions team up to boost your heart risk even more. Imagine having borderline blood pressure or glucose levels, but not yet diabetes or kidney disease. Your risk might not be spotted. Researchers used data from a federal health survey to create heart risk profiles for people with these conditions.

Kidney disease and type 2 diabetes are part of a bigger health risk called cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome. Adults with kidney disease get heart disease risks eight years earlier. Those with diabetes? About a decade sooner. But combine both, and you're looking at a higher heart risk starting at age 42 for women and 35 for men.
