Diplomat Data Leak: What We Know

A security incident at an online learning platform tied to the foreign ministry has raised alarms about the safety of sensitive personnel records. The system, used by diplomats and staff worldwide, was first flagged in early February after a government agency spotted unusual activity. The ministry shut it down immediately, and the platform has stayed offline while investigators look into how the breach happened. Officials estimate that up to 10, 000 people’s details might have been exposed, including retirees and overseas officials who occasionally use the system.

The leaked data covers names, job titles, email addresses and encrypted passwords—nothing as personal as social‑security numbers or home addresses. The suspected intruder gained entry sometime between April and May last year, keeping the door open until February. Because the platform also stores training videos, the attack may have affected a wide range of diplomatic personnel. The ministry has not yet confirmed that every piece of data was compromised, and it still lacks the tools to pinpoint who is behind the hack.
