Discovering OsSAP17: A Plant's Secret Weapon Against Drought and Salt
Asia, ChinaSaturday, January 25, 2025
When rice plants are under stress from drought, too much salt, or a hormone called ABA, they produce more OsSAP17. The protein OsSAP17 can be found both in the cytoplasm and the nucleus of the plant cell. When this protein is added to yeast and a plant called Arabidopsis, they become better at handling drought and salt stress.
The presence of OsSAP17 also changes how some genes related to ABA work. These genes are AtNCED3, AtABA2, and AtSnRK2. 2 in Arabidopsis. This shows that OsSAP17 can help plants be more resistant to drought and salt.
Understanding how OsSAP17 works can help us breed plants that are better at handling stress. This could be really important for growing crops in tough conditions.
