But why are these coins so special? They tell a story of a turbulent time in England's history. Around 1066-1068, the country was invaded by William the Conqueror during the Norman Conquest. Before that, King Edward the Confessor died without an heir, causing a bit of chaos. The coins show this transition from the Saxon to the Norman rule, with some depicting King Harold II and others showing William I.

What makes this hoard unique? It contains twice as many coins from Harold II's reign as previously found. Plus, it was buried during a time of rebellions against William. Experts think it was hidden for safekeeping, maybe during the uprisings in Exeter or when Harold's sons returned from exile.
