The same goes if it's boiling hot outside or the sun is beating down hard. Older people might choose to stay in, or only go out the shortest time possible. What's this like? Being stuck indoors all day, pretty boring. You're missing out on a lot.
There are pluses and minuses to this. Outside, walking around has been shown to improve mood and even help with thinking skills. Its simple, healthier, older people have better quality of life. So, if the weather becomes a problem, then your ability to do anything goes down the toilet. True or False?
This all boils down to the simple fact that activity levels decrease significantly when it's too hot or too cold. This matters because older people need to be active. Experts say we should all be moving a lot.
So, what's the takeaway here? The weather plays a major role in how active older adults are. So, if you're an older adult, or you know one, be sure to plan for the weather. There are good days and bad days. Don't get left behind. It's all about staying active. Older adults are sittinf on the couch not the doctors office.
