“Dog Man” Keeps Top Spot

“Dog Man” is still the most popular movie this weekend for the second week in a row. This despite a considerable drop in earnings. This crime comedy picture from DreamWorks didn’t let the Super Bowl keep it from keeping its top position. But, what does this mean? Isn’t the Super Bowl extremely popular among Americans? How is the movie so popular? The movie earned 3. 2 million on its sophomore Friday. The prediction for its second weekend outing? Of course, 54 million. Then what happened with the other movies? They didn’t have as good a weekend as the previous. “Love Hurts” a film illustrated by stunt coordinator Jonathan Eusebio did not do as well. Films usually vie for the number one position at this time. The week before Valentine’s Day there are usually a lot of romantic flicks. These movies like “Heart Eyes” earned less money. Film surveys took place. This can affect their future earnings. It is still not overvalued at $18 million. This Comedy/Romantic Horror film received great reviews but it was only given a B- on the Cinema score. It is possibly the horror niche. So what causes this discrepancy? There are basically two types of movies - romance and crime movies. The competition is light this time of the year. The lion king musical prequel by Disney was also released, It is older and has more time to loop through the market. In this way it is not surprising that it earned more. “Love Hurts” isn’t generating the expected hype to truly challenge “Dog Man”.
