Earth Day Ideas From Vermont’s Young Writers

Vermont, USASaturday, May 2, 2026

Vermont teachers and students united to honor Earth Day with a writing contest that ran from February through mid‑April. The competition welcomed fourth, fifth, and sixth graders from towns such as Bennington, Burlington, and Windsor.

More than fifty submissions arrived—ranging from personal nature memories to creative fiction and factual reports—all celebrating Vermont’s natural beauty.

The state attorney general praised the effort, noting that these essays spark new thoughts about protecting Vermont for future generations. She also promised each student personalized feedback from her office’s environmental team.

All entries are now available on the attorney general’s website for anyone to read and enjoy.

A random drawing announced Julius from Rick Marcotte Central School as the overall winner, and his school will receive a visit from the attorney general’s staff later in spring.

The contest highlighted how young voices can shape environmental conversations and inspire adults to act for the planet’s well‑being.
