Editing Grapevines for Better Mildew Resistance
Sunday, December 8, 2024
These plants also had thicker leaves and stronger defenses, thanks to altered biochemicals and better antioxidants. They even made more stilbenes, which act like natural shields. The Cre-loxP method helped get rid of the extra gene pieces, making one MLO6-7 edited plant clean and transgene-free. So, not only are these grapevines tougher, they're also more sustainable, preserving their original genetic makeup. This work opens new questions about how NPR3 plays a big role in fighting plant diseases.
