Elon Musk's xAI Launches Grok Chatbot App: Is It Too Good to Be True?

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has just dropped an iOS app for its Grok chatbot. Once exclusive to X users, Grok is now live in several countries, including the U. S. , Australia, and India. This app can fetch fresh data from the web and X, and uses generative AI to rewrite text, summarize long paragraphs, and even answer some questions. Plus, it can create images based on text prompts. The app, which promises to be “maximally truthful, useful, and curious, ” has some impressive features. It can generate “striking images” from text and provide insights by looking at your photos. xAI is also cooking up a dedicated website, Grok. com, to access the chatbot from the web.

Recently, xAI opened up Grok to non-paying X users too. From November, they started testing a free version, and by earlier this month, it was available to all. The company boasts that Grok’s image generator model is great at creating realistic images and doesn’t put many limits on what users can create, including images of public figures and copyrighted material. But with all these bells and whistles, there are some things to ponder. How truthful is Grok’s information? And is it okay to create images using copyrighted material without restrictions?
