Emirates Treats Johannesburg Teachers with Upcycled Backpacks

Emirates, a leading airline, has been flying to South Africa for nearly 30 years, supporting local arts, culture, tourism, and education. Recently, they gifted 100 teachers with upcycled backpacks as part of their 'Aircrafted by Emirates' collection. These backpacks, made from recycled materials from the airline's planes, were handmade at their facility in Dubai. Each teacher also received a leather notebook, a tumbler, and a pack of teas. Emirates visited Carter Primary School and Gordon Primary School in the Alexandra township for this initiative. These schools play a crucial role in shaping the future of their students. By recognizing these educators, Emirates aimed to appreciate their hard work and dedication. Afzal Parambil, Emirates' Regional Manager for Southern Africa, emphasized the airline's commitment to community investment. He stated that education, like travel, broadens minds and benefits society.

The backpacks, created from first-class leather seats, represent a piece of Emirates' history and innovation. The teachers were thrilled to be acknowledged for their efforts, as they often go unnoticed. Principal Seemela of Carter Primary School expressed gratitude and hope for a lasting relationship with Emirates. Emirates supports youth and education through various initiatives and the Emirates Airline Foundation. In South Africa, they back Singakwenza and Fikelela Children's Centre, which focus on early childhood education and HIV/AIDS-affected children. Emirates also supports St Marcellin's Children's Village in Zimbabwe.
