A Major Boost from Avolon

Etihad Airways is set to enhance its fleet with 13 new Airbus planes, sourced from Avolon, a leading aviation finance company. The agreement, unveiled at the Dubai Airshow, includes:

  • Nine A330neo aircraft
  • Four A320neo family aircraft

Additionally, Etihad has placed a direct order with Airbus for six more A330neo planes, bringing their total A330neo fleet to 15 aircraft.

Delivery and Expansion Plans

The new aircraft are scheduled to arrive in 2027 and 2028. These additions will support Etihad's route expansion and increase capacity at its Abu Dhabi hub. Currently, Etihad operates 115 aircraft and serves over 100 destinations worldwide.

Avolon's Commitment to the A330neo Program

Avolon has been a key supporter of the A330neo program since 2014, with 87 of these aircraft in its fleet. The A330neo is renowned for its efficiency, boasting:

  • A range of 8,100 nautical miles
  • 25% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions compared to older models

Strategic Partnership and Future Growth

Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon, views this deal as a vote of confidence in the A330neo, reflecting the high demand for widebody aircraft. Avolon's large order book enables it to support Etihad's expansion plans. Cronin expressed enthusiasm for partnering with a top-tier airline like Etihad, especially as the Middle East grows as an aviation hub.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, praised Avolon's role in modernizing the fleet. The new A330neo and A320neo family aircraft will provide the flexibility and efficiency needed for future growth. Specifically:

  • The A330neo will strengthen Etihad's medium-haul network
  • The A320neo family will support short-haul expansion and improve connectivity through Abu Dhabi

Neves looks forward to deepening the partnership with Avolon.
